A Brief History of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submission holds. Developed from Kodokan Judo ground fighting fundamentals, BJJ was established in the early 20th century by the Gracie family in Brazil. The art emphasizes leverage and technique over strength, allowing smaller practitioners to defend themselves against larger opponents.
